No ductwork or blast gates to worry about. Manicure Table Armrest
A dust collection system is an important workshop safety feature, but investing in a dust collector and running ductwork and hoses around your shop can be expensive and time-consuming. Matthias Wandel enjoys building his own tools, so it's only natural that he'd make his own dust collection system.
Wandel's approach is to set up a mini-dust collector for each of his tools. Although he does have a large central dust collector, he says his DIY dust collectors are just as effective and less hassle to use.
He starts by building a basic wooden box and attaching an exhaust fan/blower. Then he runs a length of hose from the tool to the exhaust fan, which will collect the dust and particulates and deposit them into the sealed box. Wandel recommends using the cheaper 20 X 25 Garrison furnace filters which run $10 for two over more expensive brands like 3M, which he found to be less effective.
