The print shop at Lamar Tech has taken a giant step forward with the addition of an Aurelia-Commander 24, high speed, offset printing press.

The machine is valued at $16,500 and is capable of running 8,000 sheets of print per hour. It was manufactured in Milano, Italy.   Flexographic Printing Press

The press makes it possible for the print shop to run off full tabloid size papers such as the Redbird. It will also allow large quantities of books and related items to be run off in a shorter period of time.

As many as eight pages of 9 x 12 book can be printed at the same time, and the machine also makes it possible for the print shop to print process color, like that found in magazines.

The color process is expensive and slow, but the addition of it to the shop will give Lamar Tech practically all facilities needed for campus printing.

The two smaller presses were kept in the print shop to do jobs which usually require less than 2,000 copies. The big machine is not economical for printing less than this number, because of the time involved in setting up the machine.

In addition to the press, a new stripping table and plate burner were also added to the print shop’s facilities.
